Zizi Rincolisky was born and raised in Cologne Germany in 1956. She holds a Masters Degree in English Philology, History of Arts and Art Psychology as well as a Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology. Zizi Rincolisky did several internships in contemporary art galleries in Cologne and New York from 1976 to 1980, for example at Galerie Heiner Friedrich where she was exposed to works of Gerhard Richter, Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly, Richard Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, Richard Serra... In 1977 she assisted in installing Walter de Maria's 'Earth Room' in Soho, New York. Thus already very early she became acquainted with the aesthetics of conceptual art of the 70ies.
Besides her work in the galleries she focused on 'art psychology' at the University of Cologne, taught by Professor Friedrich Heubach , who in 1992 became professor for psychology at the 'Kunstakademie Düsseldorf' in Germany. From 1968 to 1975 Heubach edited the journal 'Interfunktionen' in which contemporary artistes published their work.
In 1983 Zizi Rincolisky completed her Master degree in Philology, History of Arts and Art Psychology at University of Cologne. Besides her studies in the early eighties Zizi became actively involved in the developing punk scene of wild, expressive art which seemed to have been a reaction to the very reduced and systematic concept art of the seventies. She worked in bars and galleries, where and became acquainted with artists of the 80ies group (The Young Wild Ones). In 1985 she started her studies in Clinical Psychology in Marburg, Germany where she completed her Master of Science degree in 1989. In the same year she went to Asia and Australia on a ‘work-travel’ visa for almost one year and remained in Australia as a permanent resident for two years. There she worked as a clinical psychologist at the University Hospital of Melbourne, Department of Psychiatry.
Zizi Rincolisky then returned to Europe in 1993 and worked in London as a clinical psychologist at one of the University Hospitals. There, besides her work she began a training-analysis by Jacques Lacan, the French philosopher and psychoanalyst. In 1996, after the birth of her second child, she moved to Cork in Ireland with her family where she had her third child in 1999. During this time she actively started to produce her own art, several installations, performances and short films that were exhibited in the Art Trail in Cork. In 2001 the family moved to Brussels in Belgium, where she worked with children from the European schools in creative domains, e.g .video and film, theatre and improvisation, sculpture and painting. During this time she produced 5 theatre plays and 6 films with children and adolescents, besides undergoing training in film editing for 2 years. In her personal artistic films (l'Amour Fou and the Extraterrestrial Hermaphrodite), children always play an essential part. Even in her latest film 'the Other woman', children participated in a family context.
Zizi Rincolisky's personal philosophy is to polarize aesthetics with psychopathology, to fluctuate between these two poles. These poles contain sexuality (adult and -childhood), religion, the formation of symptoms and disorders combined with images of the beauty of nature and visual art.
